Canadian
Rockies vacations offer the active traveler a veritable playground all
year—including skiing bowls of champagne powder, horseback riding on
mountain trails, hiking to a backcountry lodge, walking on ancient
glacial ice, white water river rafting and driving a dog sled team.
Plan your Canadian Rockies vacations around events such as Banff’s
86-year old Winter Festival, the Ice Magic International Ice Sculpture
Competition at Lake Louise, Canmore’s summer Folk Music Festival or the
world-famous Banff Festival of Mountain Films and Books held each
November. Creative regional cuisine and wine pairings are cause for
celebration at annual food and wine festivals in Banff, Lake Louise,
Calgary and Jasper.
One of the world’s youngest mountain ranges, Canada’s Rocky Mountains
are home to seven mountain parks and 994 miles (1,600 kilometres) of
hiking trails. The weather during Canadian Rockies vacations can be
variable due to the high elevation and rugged topography. Cool, crisp
nights and warm days are typical of autumn. Warming Chinook winds can
bring spring-like conditions in mid-winter, while spring offers both
skiing and golfing opportunities. The summer climate is pleasant with
low humidity, warm temperatures and daylight hours stretching until
11:00 pm.
Before the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway in the late 1800’s
(the company that originally developed luxury Canadian Rockies
vacations), early Native people cherished these mountains as sacred
places and a source of game, fish, and other supplies as long ago as 11
thousand years. Stoney, Cree, Ktunaxa and Plains Blackfoot Nations
roamed these valleys, followed later by explorers fuelled by the fur
trade.
Good Earth Travel Adventures is committed to ensuring travelers
experience the best of the region during Canadian Rockies vacations. Our
commitment to environmentally sensitive services is aligned with Parks
Canada’s goal to provide educational, enriching experiences in pristine
mountain ecosystems. Learn about wildlife habitat and how glaciers are
formed while exploring this place characterized by its natural beauty.
