CANMORE
The charming mountain community of Canmore
provides an ideal combination of outstanding services and recreational
opportunities on the edge of a spectacular wilderness. Nestled in the
Canadian Rockies, the town is only 90 minutes from Calgary International
Airport. It borders Banff National Park, and Kananaskis Country while
being only a 20 minute drive from the world-famous Banff townsite.
Canmore is a relatively undiscovered jewel of the Canadian Rockies.
This friendly mountain town strikes a pleasing balance between
development and unspoiled mountain terrain. Canmore offers outdoor
enthusiasts almost everything they could possibly want while providing
excellent shopping, dining and lodging facilities. You’ll also find a
thriving arts community that is reflected in the many galleries
displaying amazing local talent.
The town is becoming increasingly well known as an incredible outdoor
playground. During the summer fly-fishing, hiking, mountain biking,
horseback riding, rock climbing, golfing, rafting and caving tours are
all easily accessible. Winter provides fantastic opportunities for
cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, dogsledding and downhill skiing.
Festivals and sporting events are as much a part of the culture in
Canmore as the outdoor lifestyle. The Folk Festival, Highland Games and
Winterfest are just a few of the fun-filled family events to experience.
Those with a more competitive spirit may want to take in the Canmore
Challenge 12 km trail run, Rocky Mountain Half Marathon, or one of the
many mountain bike races and cross country ski races at the world-class
Canmore Nordic Centre.
Wildlife watchers will want to keep their eyes open for elk, deer, Rocky
Mountain sheep, bears, pine martens, pikas, moose, snowshoe hares,
eagles and osprey. Wildflowers abound in spring and summer, and the
magnificent mountain setting is a photographer's paradise with scenic
views in all directions.
When visiting Canmore, be sure to go for a walk along the extensive
network of trails - particularly beside the Bow River. Along the way
you’ll notice a slower pace of life while meeting locals who have
succumbed to an irresistible mountain lifestyle.
